-3I had my first of many lessons with John Bertges the summer between my freshman and sophmore year of highschool. I had never had a real golf instructor before. Ever since that first lesson my golf game has excelled. I worked with John for three years from my sophmore year to senior year of highschool. He helped take my game to a new level. After all the lessons with John; I have placed 3rd in the IHSAA Boys Golf State final. My Freshman year at the University of Indianapolis I won my first collegiate golf tournament and Finished 5th at the NCAA DII National Championship . Also I won the 2009 PGA Indiana Open as an Amateur, shooting a course record 63 at the Brickyard!

I can say that without the help of John Bertges; I would not be the golfer I am today. He helped me build a strong golf foundation that I am still building on today.

-2When I first met John, my sophomore year of high school, I was I was probably averaging a 120 on 18 holes. I had only started playing a year before that and had moved between many different pros in order to better my game. After working with John once during a summer golf clinic, I knew he would be my best option in building my own golf swing. A year later, I earned a varsity spot on the Memorial High School girl’s golf team.

John took my horrid golf swing and helped me to piece together one that has carried me through numerous rounds of golf, including my first tournament win in the Evansville High School Girl’s City Golf Tournament. With hard work and determination, he motivated me to work hard and to continue practicing countless drills that he promised would “fix my swing” (which they did).

It’s crazy to look back and think about how far I have come in the last four years. I currently am playing for the Fontbonne University Women’s golf team, located in St. Louis, Missouri. I have not only broke 80 on many occassions, I have broke par as well. So far at Fontbonne I have placed within the top 10 at several tournaments as well as being named MVP as well as the captain for my team for both my freshman and sophomore years. From averaging a 120 I am proud to say that my current average for my college career is an 81. There is no doubt in my mind that John helped me achieve one of my biggest goals in life, to play college golf. Without his help I know I would not be where I am today in my golf game.
